Brisbane, city view from Bowen Hills - Australia

Brisbane - Queensland's capital in eastern Australia, located on the Brisbane River
Brisbane is the capital of the state of Queensland, located on the Brisbane River in eastern Australia. Brisbane extends inland from Moreton Bay and is surrounded by hills and lowlands. Brisbane has emerged as an administrative, commercial and cultural centre for the region and serves as a hub for transport, education and business in the northern part of the country. Brisbane is home to several universities and research institutions, including the University of Queensland, which contributes to the city's educational profile. The city centre is home to the Brisbane CBD, a business district where older colonial buildings coexist with modern architecture. The river that winds through the city has given rise to several bridges, quays and walkways that connect different parts of the city. The South Bank district, which was previously the site of the Expo 88 World Exhibition, has been transformed into an area of parks, walkways, restaurants and cultural institutions such as the Queensland Museum and the Gallery of Modern Art. The presence of the river characterizes much of the city's design and has influenced both residential areas and recreational areas. Brisbane has a subtropical climate, with warm summers and mild winters. The city also serves as a base for visits to nearby natural areas, beaches and islands, including Moreton Island and national parks inland.
Bowen Hills - just north of the city center, an inner city district that has long had both industrial and commercial importance.
