Santorini, Oia, view towards the Caldera and the Aegean Sea

Oia – Santorini’s iconic viewpoint village
Santorini - one of the most iconic islands in Greece, located in the Cyclades in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km southeast of the Greek mainland. The island is known for its dramatic cliffs, whitewashed houses with blue domes, romantic sunsets, and its unique geological history. Santorini is also known for its wines, especially from the Assyrtiko grape, which is grown in volcanic soil. It is home to vineyards, traditional taverns, and gourmet restaurants, often with sea views. Santorini is reached via Santorini Airport (JTR) with domestic and international flights, as well as by ferry from Athens (Piraeus) or other islands.
Oia - one of the most famous villages on the island of Santorini in Greece, located on the northwestern tip of the island, high above the caldera, the volcanic sea lagoon that is the remains of an ancient volcanic eruption. Oia is known for its whitewashed houses with blue domes, narrow alleys, and world-famous sunsets. Oia is located about 11 km north of Fira, the capital of Santorini. The village clings to the cliff edge and offers spectacular views of the Aegean Sea, the volcano and the surrounding islands. The architecture of Oia is typically Cycladic, with small, rounded houses, cobbled walkways, and buildings built into the rock, which gives it a unique design and climate-friendly insulation. Oia's sunsets are world-famous and attract thousands of visitors daily. Many gather at Oia Castle (the Venetian fort) to watch the sun slowly sink into the sea - a view often described as one of the most beautiful in the world. Oia can be reached by bus, car or taxi from Fira and Santorini International Airport.
