Chyulu Hills, Ol Donyo Lodge, wildlife

Chyulu Hills - here you can find elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebra, leopard, eland, bushbuck and over 300 species of birds.
The Chyulu Hills are a volcanic mountain range in southeastern Kenya, located between Tsavo West and Amboseli National Parks. The area forms an approximately 100 km long field of extinct volcanoes and lava fields, with the highest peak reaching approximately 2,188 m above sea level. Within the 741 square kilometer national park, which was established in 1983, the landscape alternates between grasslands, forested slopes and open savannahs. The area has no permanent rivers, but rainfall seeps through the porous lava bed and flows out, for example, into Mzima Springs in nearby Tsavo. The vegetation ranges from acacia forests and grasslands at lower levels to cloud forest at higher altitudes. The biodiversity includes elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebra, leopard, eland and bushbuck, as well as over 300 species of birds. The Chyulu Hills also contains Leviathan Cave, one of Africa's longest lava tunnels, over 11 km long.
Ol Donyo Lodge, formerly known as Ol Donyo Wuas, is located in the Chyulu Hills and is run by a Maasai-owned company on approximately 1,092 square kilometers. Ol Donyo Lodge offers a small and exclusive accommodation with a total of eight villas. Activities include nature experiences such as guided safaris, horse riding and lookouts at waterholes where larger elephants can be seen. Ol Donyo Lodge is located near a single airstrip and can be reached by private flight from Nairobi.
