Lucerne, city views

Lucerne - one of Switzerland's most popular and visited cities
Lucerne is a Swiss city on the northern shore of Lake Lucerne, surrounded by mighty Alpine peaks such as Pilatus and Rigi. With its combination of natural beauty, medieval city center and rich history, Lucerne is one of the country's most popular and visited cities. It is located where the Reuss River flows out and crosses the city center, giving Lucerne its characteristic waterfront cityscape.
Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke) - Lucerne's most iconic landmark, a 14th-century covered wooden bridge that stretches diagonally across the Reuss River. The bridge is one of Europe's oldest surviving wooden bridges and a strong symbolic element of Lucerne's identity. The bridge is adorned with paintings under the rafters depicting the city's history, and together with the adjacent Water Tower (Wasserturm) – an octagonal tower made of natural stone – it forms one of Switzerland's most photographed motifs. The tower has been used as a prison, archive and watchtower, and was part of the medieval city wall.
Lucerne Lake Bridge (Seebrücke) - the bridge connecting the old and new parts of Lucerne. It is used by cars, bicycles and pedestrians alike, and offers magnificent views of the lake, mountains and the city skyline with church towers and facades in classic Swiss style.
The Reuss River - not only a geographical feature, but also an important part of the city's everyday life. Several bridges, both old and new, cross the river and create natural connections between the city's different neighborhoods. The slowness of the water and the proximity to the lake give Lucerne a harmonious and inviting atmosphere, where history is ever-present, while modern elements blend into the traditional.
