Fuerteventura, Fuerteventura Airport (FUE)

Fuerteventura - the second largest of the Canary Islands
Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean, about 100 kilometers off the northwest coast of Africa. Fuerteventura belongs to Spain and has an area of about 1,660 square kilometers and a population of about 122,000 inhabitants (2024). The capital is Puerto del Rosario. Fuerteventura is known for its dry, desert-like landscape, its low mountains and its long sandy beaches. Fuerteventura has a warm and dry climate all year round, with very little rain and many hours of sunshine - making it a popular destination for sun worshippers. Fuerteventura has an international airport (FUE), which is about 5 km south of Puerto del Rosario. Fuerteventura is also connected to the other Canary Islands by ferry, especially to Lanzarote, which is only 25 minutes away.
Fuerteventura Airport - officially Aeropuerto de Fuerteventura (IATA code: FUE), is the only airport on Fuerteventura. The airport is located on the east coast of the island. The airport opened for civil traffic in 1969 and has since been expanded several times to meet the growing tourist traffic. During the 2000s, the airport underwent a major modernization with increased terminal capacity. The airport is crucial to Fuerteventura's economy, as almost all tourist traffic to and from Fuerteventura is carried out by air.
