Zugspitze - Germany

At 2,962 metres above sea level, the Zugspitze is the highest mountain in Germany. It is located in the Bavarian Alps, on the border between Germany and Austria, and is part of the Wetterstein Mountains. The Zugspitze is a spectacular place where alpine nature, snow-capped peaks and glaciers meet. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is the nearest town. The Zugspitze straddles the German-Austrian border, so you can stand with one foot in each country on the summit. The Zugspitze is home to glaciers, rock formations and a view that stretches across more than 400 alpine peaks in four countries – Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy (on clear days). The most famous glacier is called the Schneeferner. The Zugspitze is also home to alpine flora and fauna, such as marmots, ibex and alpine meadowlarks. The Zugspitze is more than just Germany’s highest mountain – it is a natural wonder, an adventure destination and a vantage point over the entire Alps.
