Port Huron's Blue Water Bridge connects the United States and Canada

Michigan is located in the northern part of the United States and consists of two separate land masses, the Lower Peninsula and the Upper Peninsula, separated by the Straits of Mackinac. Michigan is surrounded by several of the Great Lakes, which characterize both its climate and geography. The landscape contains forested areas, agricultural areas, urban areas, and industrial regions, especially in the southern parts. The economy is diverse and includes manufacturing, services, energy, and natural resources. Michigan has several major cities that are regional centers for education, commerce, and transportation. Road networks and ferry connections connect the regions, and rail and airports complement the infrastructure. Michigan has seasonal changes with cold winters and warmer summers, which affect outdoor recreation and everyday activities throughout the state.

Port Huron is located in the eastern part of the state of Michigan, where the St. Clair River meets Lake Huron. Port Huron has a central part with older buildings, dock areas and residential neighborhoods that stretch along the water. Ferry traffic, marinas and boardwalks characterize parts of the cityscape, and the waterway serves as a border with Canada, with Sarnia on the other side of the river. Port Huron has parks, local museums and sports and recreation facilities. Industry and commerce are spread across the city's outskirts, and railways and major roads connect Port Huron with the rest of Michigan. Demographically, the city has a mixed population and a daily life that is largely connected to the border relationship, water transportation and the region's business community.

A major feature of the city is the Blue Water Bridge, which connects the United States and Canada and provides the area with extensive through traffic. The structure consists of two parallel bridges that cross the St. Clair River, where the water from Lake Huron flows south. The first bridge opened in the 1930s and was later supplemented by a second bridge built adjacent to the original to handle increasing traffic.
