Soi Buakhao - part of Pattaya's multifaceted urban environment
Pattaya is a city on the east coast of Thailand, about 150 kilometers southeast of Bangkok, located on the Gulf of Thailand. Originally a fishing village, the city has grown into an urban center with extensive tourist activities, local residential areas, industries and service facilities. The street network is grid-like in central parts and includes both beach-side roads and inner-city streets, where the traffic flow is lively for most of the day. One of the central thoroughfares in Pattaya is Soi Buakhao, a long street that stretches through the central area and connects several of the city's cross streets, such as Soi Diana and Soi LK Metro. The street has a mixture of small hotels, apartment buildings, bars, restaurants, market stalls, pharmacies and hairdressers. It is trafficked by both cars and songthaews (open minibuses), and the sidewalks are often lined with pedestrians and businesses that extend into the street space.
Soi Buakhao - has developed into a place where both locals and long-term expats hang out, which has affected the range of goods and services. Unlike the beachside areas, the pace of the street is somewhat slower, but still active. In the evening, the street environment changes, as many businesses open for night visitors. Overall, Soi Buakhao is part of Pattaya's multifaceted urban environment, where everyday life and tourism meet in a compact area.
