Miami is located in the southeastern part of Florida, on the Atlantic Ocean and near the border with the Florida Keys. With its approximately 470,000 inhabitants (2024), Miami is the largest city in Miami-Dade County and one of the most populous in Florida. The city is known for its warm subtropical climate, its beautiful beaches and its unique blend of culture, art and history. Famous areas in Miami include South Beach with its art deco buildings, lively nightlife and wide sandy beaches, as well as Downtown Miami which is the city's economic center with tall skyscrapers and large companies.

Miami International Airport (MIA) - one of the busiest and most internationally oriented airports in the United States, located approximately 8 miles (13 km) northwest of downtown Miami in the state of Florida. With over 56 million passengers and 3 million tons of cargo in 2024, MIA is the largest U.S. airport for international cargo and the second largest for international passengers. Since its founding in 1928, MIA has developed into a central hub for long-haul flights, particularly to and from Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe. The airport offers over 1,000 daily departures to approximately 185 destinations worldwide, making it one of the most internationally oriented airports in the United States. American Airlines is the largest operator at MIA and uses the airport as its primary gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean. MIA is currently undergoing a major $9 billion modernization, with the goal of improving the passenger experience and increasing capacity. This upgrade includes the construction of 19 new connecting gates with boarding bridges, upgrades to elevators, escalators and moving walkways, and a major renovation of the central terminal, which is over 70 years old. The project is expected to be completed in 2034.
