Tossa de Mar - a charming coastal town located on the Costa Brava
Tossa de Mar is a charming coastal town located on the Costa Brava in northeastern Spain, in the region of Catalonia, about 100 kilometers north of Barcelona. Tossa de Mar's most famous landmark is the medieval city wall Vila Vella, which rises above the sea on a hill and surrounds the old town. Vila Vella is a unique attraction - it is the only preserved fortified medieval town on the entire Catalan coast. Inside the walls, narrow cobblestone streets wind between stone houses, small shops, galleries and viewpoints where you get a fantastic view of the sea and the coastline. Tossa de Mar is also known for its beautiful beaches, of which Platja Gran is the largest and most central. It is located just below the city walls and is lined with palm trees, outdoor cafes and promenades. In addition to beach life and history, Tossa de Mar also offers a rich cultural life. The city has inspired artists such as Marc Chagall, and there are several museums, including the Museu Municipal, where you can see both ancient Roman finds and modern art.
