L'Ametlla de Mar - a genuine fishing village on the Costa Daurada

L'Ametlla de Mar, often called La Cala by locals, is a beautiful and authentic coastal town located on the Costa Daurada in the province of Tarragona, Catalonia, in northeastern Spain. The town has around 7,000 inhabitants and is known for its traditional fishing life, crystal clear waters and unspoilt coves, making it a popular yet peaceful destination for visitors seeking authentic Catalan coastal culture. Fresh catches arrive at the quays every day, and many local restaurants offer seafood straight from the sea. L'Ametlla de Mar has preserved its authentic character, with whitewashed houses, narrow alleys and a quiet small-town feel. There are no large hotel complexes, which contributes to a more relaxed and local atmosphere. L'Ametlla de Mar also has an active cultural life with traditional festivals, such as the Festa Major and the tuna festival (La Diada del Pop i la Tonyina). The nature surrounding the town is also rich and protected. The nearby small mountain range of Serra del Boix–Cardó and the protected coastal area of Litoral de l'Ametlla offer hiking trails with beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea.
