Järntorget is located in the Haga and Masthugget districts of central Gothenburg. Järntorget is a hub for public transport and restaurants, nightlife, culture around Järntorget / Långgatora is an interesting area. Järntorget was named in 1867 after the iron scale that used to stand here and was used to weigh iron for export. This scale was a central part of Gothenburg's iron and timber trade. Today, the square is adorned by Järntorgsbrunnen, a sculpture by Tore Strindberg from 1927, which depicts five female figures representing the five continents. The fountain symbolizes the global trade that was once associated with the place.
