Santos Dumont Airport (Aeroporto Santos Dumont) is located in the center of Rio de Janeiro, close to Guanabara Bay and Rio de Janeiro's business district. Santos Dumont Airport is one of two main airports in Rio de Janeiro, handling mainly domestic traffic, especially between Rio and São Paulo. Its waterfront location and short runways make the airport particularly well-suited for small and medium-sized aircraft. Santos Dumont has a terminal with check-in facilities, security checkpoints, shopping, and restaurants. Its geographical location provides views of famous landmarks such as Sugar Loaf Mountain and the Christ the Redeemer statue upon approach. Santos Dumont serves as a hub for business travelers and has good access to public transportation, as well as taxi and bus connections to other parts of Rio. It is named after Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont, who is credited with having contributed to the development of aviation in the early 20th century. The airport's role in the region's air traffic is complemented by Galeão Airport, which handles most of the international traffic.
