Nanortalik is a town in southern Greenland. Nanortalik is located near the open sea, surrounded by fjords, islands and mountains. Nanortalik was founded in 1797 and is one of the older permanent settlements in the area. The community is characterized by fishing, hunting and public services, and functions as a local center for smaller surrounding villages. Nanortalik has a harbor, school and basic social functions, and contact with the outside world is mainly via boat and helicopter.
