Sisimiut Airport, southwest

Sisimiut Airport serves as a hub for Air Greenland
Greenland is a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark and is located between the North Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean. Greenland is mostly covered by ice sheet, while the population mainly lives along the coasts. The economy is based on fishing, the public sector and tourism. The largest city and administrative capital is Nuuk. Greenland has its own government and is responsible for most domestic issues, while Denmark handles foreign and security policy.
Sisimiut Airport is a regional civil airport just northwest of the town of Sisimiut on the west coast of Greenland. Sisimiut Airport has an asphalt runway and handles scheduled traffic with mainly smaller commercial aircraft used for domestic connections within Greenland. Sisimiut Airport serves as a hub for Air Greenland with departures to, among others, Nuuk and Kangerlussuaq as well as shorter routes to nearby towns and helicopter connections. The terminal offers basic passenger facilities and there is ground transport to Sisimiut by taxi, but no bus service. Sisimiut Airport has been in operation since the early 1990s and connects Sisimiut with the rest of Greenland through daily and weekly flights.
