Ilulissat Airport North

Larger aircraft will be able to land at Ilulissat's northern airport
Greenland is a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark and is located between the North Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean. Greenland is mostly covered by ice sheet, while the population mainly lives along the coasts. The economy is based on fishing, the public sector and tourism. The largest city and administrative capital is Nuuk. Greenland has its own government and is responsible for most domestic issues, while Denmark handles foreign and security policy.
Ilulissat is a city on the west coast of Greenland in the Disko Bay region. Ilulissat is one of the country's larger cities and serves as a local center for trade, services, and tourism. The business community is dominated by fishing and public services. Outside Ilulissat is the Ilulissat Icefjord, which carries ice from the ice sheet into the sea. Ilulissat has air and port connections with other parts of Greenland.
Ilulissat Airport North is the new airport being built north of the current Ilulissat Airport on the west coast of Greenland. Ilulissat Airport North replaces the older airport with a short runway that can only handle smaller aircraft. Ilulissat Airport North will have a longer runway and a new terminal, making it possible to receive larger aircraft and direct flights from abroad. The project is part of Greenland's investment in improved transport infrastructure and Ilulissat Airport North is scheduled to be operational around 2026. Ilulissat Airport North will serve both local traffic and visitors to the Disko Bay area.
