Båstad is the central town of Båstad Municipality, Skåne County. Båstad is the largest town on the Bjäre Peninsula and has a station on the West Coast Railway. The town is located at Hallandsås. The main part of the town is located in Båstad District (Båstad parish) in the province of Skåne, but the eastern parts Hemmeslöv and Eskilstorpsstrand belong to Östra Karups District (Östra Karups parish) in Halland. Båstad is known as a tennis metropolis and since 1948 annual tennis tournaments have been arranged. Båstad is located approximately 170 km south of Gothenburg, approximately 38 km south of Halmstad and approximately 115 km north of Malmö.
