Västerås is a city in central Sweden, located on the northern shore of Lake Mälaren in Västmanland County. Västerås is located approximately 100 km west of Stockholm and is the center of Västerås Municipality and the seat of Västmanland County. Västerås offers a mix of historical and modern experiences, with attractions such as Västerås Castle, Västerås Cathedral and the old city center Kyrkbacken. The city also has a rich cultural life and is home to Mälardalen University.

Västerås City Hall is an impressive building and was built between 1953 and 1988 according to drawings by city architect Sven Ahlbom. Västerås City Hall is one of Sweden's most prominent examples of modernist public architecture. The city hall has a strict and stylish aesthetic, with facades clad in Svandal granite and Ekeberg marble. The roof is covered in copper, which gives the building a timeless expression. The 65-meter-high tower houses Sweden's largest carillon, consisting of 47 bells that together weigh 11,420 kilograms.
