The city of Oceanside is located in northern San Diego County, California, along the Pacific Coast. Oceanside is located between San Diego and Los Angeles and is part of the Southern California metropolitan area.

Oceanside has grown around its coastline and harbor. A prominent feature is the Oceanside Pier, a long wooden pier that extends into the ocean and is used for walking and fishing. Also nearby is Oceanside Harbor with a marina, restaurants, and boating-related businesses.

Oceanside has both residential areas and a military presence through Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, located just north of downtown. Oceanside also has rail connections along the coast, allowing travel between nearby cities. The area surrounding Oceanside is used by both residents and visitors, for daily living, commuting, and seaside activities.
