Fiumalbo – a village surrounded by forested mountains
Fiumalbo is a small village in the province of Modena in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. Fiumalbo is located in the Apennines, near the border with Tuscany, surrounded by forested mountains, valleys and a landscape that changes markedly with the seasons. Fiumalbo has preserved much of its older buildings, with stone houses, narrow alleys and small squares that reflect its history. In the center is the church of San Bartolomeo, which is an important part of the village environment.
Fiumalbo's history stretches back a long way, and Fiumalbo's location in the mountains has influenced both the settlement and the way of life of its people. The area has traditionally been linked to agriculture, forestry and trade between different parts of the Apennines. Even today, the local culture is evident in the architecture, food traditions and the festivals celebrated throughout the year.
The nature around Fiumalbo offers opportunities for hiking, cycling and excursions during the summer. When winter comes, the nearby ski areas attract visitors who want to ski or engage in other winter activities. The landscape is also suitable for those who want to discover smaller roads, mountain villages and viewpoints at a slower pace. Fiumalbo is also famous for its living Christmas play, presepe vivente , where people act out the story of the birth of Jesus in an environment that is linked to old-fashioned village life. The tradition brings together both residents and visitors and is part of the local cultural heritage.
Fiumalbo is thus a place where historic buildings, local traditions and the nature of the Apennines meet.
