Gubbio, Piazza Grande - Italy

Gubbio is a town in the Italian region of Umbria, located on the slopes of Monte Ingino. Gubbio's history dates back to pre-Roman times and the medieval cityscape still characterizes the settlement with narrow alleys, stone houses and public buildings from different eras. Gubbio has been a local administrative and religious center for centuries, and many of Gubbio's buildings bear witness to its historical development.

Piazza Grande is the central square of Gubbio and was created in the 14th century as part of a major urban transformation. Piazza Grande is built on large arches that support the open space above the sloping terrain. From here there are views of the surrounding valley and the lower part of Gubbio. Next to Piazza Grande is the Palazzo dei Consoli, which previously served as the seat of Gubbio's authorities but today houses a museum. Piazza Grande is still used as a gathering place for residents and visitors and is a recurring venue for the city's cultural and traditional events.
