Perugia, Piazza IV Novembre - Italy

Perugia is the capital of the Umbria region in central Italy. Perugia is located on a hill between the valleys of the Tiber River and has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In ancient times, Perugia was an important city within the Etruscan civilization and was later incorporated into the Roman Empire. During the Middle Ages, Perugia developed into an autonomous city with trade, crafts and a university that is still a significant part of city life.

In the heart of the historic center is Piazza IV Novembre. For centuries, Piazza IV Novembre has served as the city's central place for commerce, public gatherings, and religious ceremonies. Its name refers to November 4, 1918, when the armistice between Italy and Austria-Hungary came into effect after World War I. During the 20th century, many Italian streets and squares were named after this date.

Piazza IV Novembre is surrounded by several buildings from the Middle Ages. On one side is the Palazzo dei Priori, which was built from the end of the 13th century and is still used for municipal and cultural activities. Next to it is Perugia Cathedral, whose building history extends from the 14th century onwards. In the middle of Piazza IV Novembre stands the Fontana Maggiore, completed in 1278. The fountain was built to mark the city's new water supply and is decorated with reliefs depicting the months of the year, the liberal arts, biblical motifs and scenes from everyday life.

Even today, Piazza IV Novembre is a natural meeting place for residents and visitors. People pass between the city's narrow streets, cafes and public buildings, and Piazza IV Novembre is used for markets, concerts and other events throughout the year.
