Cingoli - Italy

Cingoli is located on the top of Monte Circe, about 631 meters above sea level, in the province of Macerata in the Italian region of Marche.

Its elevated position offers views of the surrounding countryside, which stretches towards the Adriatic Sea and Mount Conero. The older part of Cingoli is surrounded by medieval walls and has a town centre with alleys, squares and buildings from different periods.

Cingoli has roots that go back to Roman times, when the town was a municipium. Cingoli is associated with, among others, the Roman general Titus Labienus, who was born here, and with Pope Pius VIII, who was born in Cingoli in the 18th century. Cingoli's location and historical setting have made the town part of the "I Borghi più belli d'Italia" network, an award for particularly beautiful and well-preserved small villages and towns in Italy. From the old castle walls there are several places where you can look out over the Marche and the countryside around Cingoli. Cingoli is also surrounded by a hilly landscape with forests, farmland and smaller communities, which gives the area a distinctly rural character.
